Working Together to Promote Responsible Mining – Velmont Calls for a Balance between High Industry Standards and Practicality at the African Mining Indaba

Mining Indaba 2025 opened with great fanfare in Cape Town on July 31. Themed "Towards the Future, Starting Today," this year's conference focused on Africa's abundant cobalt, copper, and rare earth resources and their strategic significance for global green technology. It also explored best practices for responsible mining and online remote mining platforms.

The African continent holds enormous potential for economic transformation and inclusive development, but history warns us that seizing this opportunity requires overcoming the challenges of balancing resource management, environmental protection, and community empowerment.

"Future-Ready" is more than just a slogan; it means:

Responsible production: Mining metal minerals in a transparent, compliant, and environmentally friendly manner;

Online collaboration: Through Velmont's digital platform, global online part-time miners can seamlessly collaborate with local operations teams, sharing computing power and profits;

Promoting development: Ensuring local communities have access to employment opportunities, skills training, and long-term benefits;

Protecting nature: Meeting the needs of the present while preserving a sustainable ecosystem for future generations.

The four major standards currently adopted by the industry—the Copper Mark, Canada's Towards Sustainable Mining (TSM), the World Gold Council's Responsible Gold Mining Principles, and the International Council on Mining and Metals (ICMM)'s Mining Principles—each have their own distinct focus, but fragmentation remains a barrier. To address this, the Comprehensive Mining Standard Initiative (CMSI) was created:

Integrating advantages: Bringing together the core requirements of the four standards into a single entity, balancing high standards with global applicability;

Streamlining processes: Lowering the barriers to compliance and certification for businesses with clear, quantifiable indicators;

Multi-stakeholder governance: Establishing independent oversight and stakeholder engagement mechanisms to ensure fair assessments and transparent information.

As a pioneer in responsible mining and online mining platforms, Velmont has deployed integrated wind and photovoltaic power generation and intelligent mining machine systems in Zambia's core gold mining areas. The company has also launched a digital work platform, enabling global online miners to monitor computing power and revenue in real time, participate in computing power leasing, and achieve "zero-distance" collaboration.

We will:

Full-Process Compliance: Ensure that every step, including mining, power generation, online operations, and community services, meets the highest industry standards;

Win-Win Development: Collaborate with governments, indigenous communities, OEMs, and non-governmental organizations to promote responsible mining practices among mining companies and online part-time miners.

"Through our online platform, we not only connect miners worldwide, but also ensure that every remote computing power contribution contributes to local prosperity," said Velmont's Chief Digital Officer on the eve of the annual meeting.

Looking forward, Velmont will continue to collaborate with industry colleagues, driven by responsibility, innovation, and digitalization, to write a new chapter in green mining and online collaboration, creating lasting value for present and future generations.
